John Emery Dykstra, age 86, went home to be with his Lord on November 15, 2013. John was born October 12, 1927 in Redlands, CA, the son of John and Jacoba (Braaksma) Dykstra. On Veterans Day November 11, 1949 he was united in marriage to Bernadene Cramer. John was a Navy veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict, serving on the USS Nashville and USS Piedmont. He was a lifetime member of the Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a Cadet Counselor, Deacon and Elder. John was a longtime supporter of KCHS Sports Boosters. He enjoyed camping, golf and bowling, and liked to explore back roads and points of interest in Michigan, including all the lighthouses. John was a tool and die maker by trade and service technician in the graphic arts industry. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Bernadene Dykstra; children, John (Kathy) Dykstra, Joanne (Ken) Smit, David Dykstra (Julie Buesking), Sharron (Donn) Lemmer, Barbara (Tim) Wichmann, Timothy (Sharon) Dykstra and Debra (Ron) Heystek; 28 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Weaver; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 18th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 19th at Comstock Christian Reformed Church (5300 Comstock Ave.) with Pastor Ben Hulst officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
