Obituary

William Reid Frakes, age 74 of Portage, died on November 13, 2020, at Bronson Hospital fromComplications due to Covid-19. He was born July 25, 1946, in Vicksburg, the son of William Edwin Frakes and Helen Flanders (Baxter). Bill was a 1965 graduate of Portage Central High School. He was married to Judy (Shook) Frakes. Bill was a former Portage Central Wrestler, who later spent time with the Mustangs staff under McCloughan in the 1980's and instructed countless youngsters in the Portage School District and Vicksburg School District in their wrestling programs. He played Football for Portage Central and has always said he bleeds BLUE. Bill was a referee for HS football for many years. He was very passionate about football and wrestling and got involved as much as possible in those events in the community. In 2006, Bill volunteered to help Ford Field get ready for the Superbowl and he was very proud of that experience. He was a volunteer fireman for the Portage Fire Department. Every year since 9/11 has delivered a wreath to the Portage Fire Department to commemorate the lives that were lost that fateful day. The Portage Fire Department honored him in 2019 and made him an honorary fireman with a plaque and a coin. It was a very proud moment for Bill and his family that were able to witness that. He was heavily involved in the Portage area and it was important to Bill to support the local businesses of the Portage community. He also was a member of the VFW and was involved in several other area organizations. Bill is survived by Judy Frakes (Shook), his wife of 42 years, Kimberly Michelle Frakes, and her fiancee Mark Benson, Deborah Jo Frakes, Robert Charles Frakes, Mark Anthony Judge.
