Another passion of Tom's was the Kalamazoo Nature Center. For many years he enjoyed taking his classes on field-trips to learn more about local nature. He also loved using the Nature Center as a background for many of his photo sessions.

Tom was an example to all he met by living his life by a simple motto he loved "Be Kinder Than Necessary".

Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law Tim and Janice Hansen; three nieces Jodi and Chad Mortensen, Kimberly and Steve Lemke and Jennifer and Jeremy Lassiter; several grand nieces and nephews; and numerous special friends he has met through the years.
