Roy W. Weiss

December 8, 1950 — May 8, 2020

Passed away Friday morning, May 8, 2020 at his home. Roy was born December 8, 1950 in Kalamazoo the son of James and Pauline (Hotrum) Weiss. Roy attended Loy Norrix HS. He worked many years at Beverage Vending and later ARA Services as a vending machine mechanic. Prior to retiring Roy was head of maintenance for Domestic Linen.

Roy spent his entire life in the Kalamazoo and Portage area. Growing up and running around in Oakwood. Where during the 70's he and his cousin opened a cycle shop called Mild to Wild. They did custom work, building bikes and choppers before it was popular. He loved his Harleys, built several, even had his and her Harleys with his first wife Linda. Travis recalls being a terrified 5 year old riding on the back of a loud, straight piped Harley while dad would pop wheelies driving through Oakwood. Later after he "grew up" Roy enjoyed fishing with his sons, and participated in tournament fishing for bass. A passion he passed along to his son Jason who has become an avid tournament bass fisherman. A family tradition every year was deer camp for a week in Grayling with his dad and his 2 sons. Where his dad (Grandpa Weiss) named their spot "Doe Valley". They definitely came back home every year with more memories than deer. One thing was for certain, they always ate well that week, Grandpa brought enough food for a year.

Roy was a lifetime NRA member, enjoyed range shooting, particularly long range pistol, and participated in competitive silhouette shooting for a time. He liked to spend time at the casinos where his wife Sandra was always the luckier one. Summers were always a fun time having cookouts by the pool. Watching and setting off fireworks in the backyard. (some of which were maybe a little too big for the neighborhood) Roy's mantra "go big or go home". You could often find him tinkering on vehicles in his (busted knuckle) garage. Roy really loved to cook and would spend many hours in the kitchen cooking or baking up something tasty.

Roy was preceded in death by his first wife Linda Weiss (Berkey), mother to his son's Travis (Kristine) Weiss and Jason Weiss who survive. Also preceded in death by late wife Sandra K. Weiss (Melson). Roy is survived by his sisters RuthAnn (John) Hughes, Yvonne (Scott) Johnson; Granddaughter Madalyn Weiss; his step son, Kim Kirkens (Jennifer); grandchildren, Gavin, Braylen, Mackenzie; step son Mike Melson; two nieces, Samantha (Peter) Bampton-Clare, Sarah (Andy) Barker; two great nieces, Ellie and Kate Barker; and several cousins.

Roy's family would like to acknowledge and thank his special friends the Brassard Family. (Robert, Deb, James and Brandi) for the friendship, support and care they shared with him.

Cremation has taken place at the Langeland Family Cremation Center. Private burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Comstock. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
