Rodger Lewis Blackport, Sr., age 76, died at Bronson Hospital on April 22, 2021. He was born February 21, 1945, in Kalamazoo, the son of William and Doris (Broadstone) Blackport. Rodger attended Loy Norrix High School. Rodger was an essential skills man; he knew how to handyman a home inside and out. He took numerous classes and was a continuous learner of trade skills; construction, electrical, maintenance, mechanical, etc. He also loved gardens and was known for his green thumb. He had worked in Maintenance for Upjohn Nursing Home and retired in maintenance from Walmart. He was a member of the New Apostolic Church. He was loyal and loving to his faith, family and friends. He had a kind heart and warm smile that will be missed by many. His family includes his children: Dawna (Ronald) Kline, Rodger Blackport, Jr., Jessica Blackport, Andrew Blackport, and Eric Blackport; his grandchildren: Brandon Kline, Gianna Kline, and Xander Puente; his brothers and sisters: Ronald, Ralph, and Rodney (Sherri) Blackport, Patsy (David) Drzick and Sharon (Carl) Blake; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Robert, and Billy Blackport. Friends may gather with his family from 12-1 PM, Saturday, May 1, 2021, at New Apostolic Church, 3600 W Milham Ave, Portage, MI 49024, where his service will be held at 1 PM.
