Robert L. Olson

Robert Larry Olson passed away Monday morning, December 31, 2018. He was born December 20, 1927 in Kalamazoo, Michigan the son of Albert Palmer Olson & Viola Mae Beaune.

Robert was the 5th of 7 children and was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Virginia Born, Leslie Olson, Delorise Mullen, Albert P Olson Jr, Elaine Olson, Jack Olson. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and step-father, Raymond Klimp.

Robert lived in the Kalamazoo area all of his life.
He met Violet E Cullen in 1960, and they were united in marriage on June 24, 1961 at which time he gained a brother, Harley Cullen and a sister, Mary Webster.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Violet; his four children, Roberta (Douglas) Lytle of Columbia City, IN, Larry Ray Olson of Sturgis, MI, Timothy John Olson of Portage, MI, Carol (Daniel) Babcock of Gobles, MI. He was a proud grandpa of 7 grandchildren, Robert Olson, Trisha Olson, Heather Widner, Ryan Lytle, Timothy Olson Jr, Casey Cox and Hunter Babcock. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert worked for Root Spring Scraper for 35 years. He retired and didn't like it, so he went back to work for Goodwill for seven years. He left there and went to Salvation Army and worked there until he retired again at 85 years old. The man loved to talk about anything. But if you brought up the Tigers you might as well get a cup of coffee and take a seat, because you're going to be there a while.

Services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, January 5 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Friday evening from 6-8pm at the Portage Chapel. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
