Nancy J. (Eilers) Lummis

Nancy Joan Lummis (Eilers), age 93, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2023 at Park Village Pines in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Nancy was born on June 27, 1929 in Montague Township, MI to Daniel and Ruth (Schanz) Eilers.  While growing up she worked on the family farm.  Nancy graduated from Montague high school where her favorite subject was science, so it is no surprise that she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Western Michigan University.  She was employed by the Upjohn Company for ten years where she researched the effectiveness of antibiotics.  Nancy met her husband, William Lummis, while working at Upjohn and they enjoyed 36 years of marriage before Bill’s death in 1996.  After the birth of her son, Nancy was able to stay home to manage the household.  She enjoyed water color painting, taking art courses at WMU, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, and from several well-known water color artists to learn new techniques.  She also enjoyed reading, searching for agates along the shores of Lake Superior, swimming in the canal behind her home in Key West, gardening with her grandson as they tried to grow the largest pumpkin ever, listening to classical music, and eating dark chocolate!

Nancy is survived by her son Daniel (Kim) Lummis, grandson George Lummis, and great-grandson Jackson Lummis; sisters Barbara Eilers and Linda (Mike) Guinon; step-sons Michael (Laura) Lummis, Marvin (Penny) Lummis, and Mark (Chong) Lummis; step-grandchildren Brian, Tara, Chad, and Wesley; several step great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, her sister Lorraine Geisler, her brother Joseph Eilers, and step grandchild Christine.
