Michael Anthony Weber

July 9, 1935 — June 12, 2022

Portage

Michael Anthony Weber, age 86 of Portage, passed away peacefully on June 12th, 2022. Born on July 9th, 1935, in Kalamazoo to the late Cleland and Ellen (Rector) Weber, he spent his childhood in the Kalamazoo area. He was graduated from St. Augustine's High School, and afterwards, Michael joined the US Army. He completed his service in 1957 and enrolled at Western Michigan University, where he received his bachelor's degree. During his studies at WMU, Michael met Arlene Howarth, and they married on June 20th, 1959. After starting their family, he returned to Western and earned a master's degree in accounting. Michael began working for the university in 1966 and became the very first Payroll Administrator at WMU - a position he held until he 'retired' in June of 2000. After his official retirement, Michael continued contract working for Western for many years.

In addition to working, Michael had many interests including golfing, tinkering, and fixing things in his shop, genealogy, and music. Michael showed his love of music by playing guitar in the very popular local band, 'The Moonlighters'. For decades, many local couples celebrated weddings and special events to the music provided by this wonderfully talented group of friends. Michael and Arlene also spent many years as members of Saint Catherine of Siena. The couple enjoyed traveling - and they spent their early retirement traveling to Europe and wintering in Alabama.

However, the greatest joy in Michael's life was his family. He spent years coaching sports, attending concerts and games, all to support his children. His love for his family deepened even further with the arrival of his two grandchildren, who he loved without measure. Michael's sense of humor, his easy laugh, love of telling a good story… and of course his ever-present hat, will be remembered by all who were blessed to know him.

He will be deeply missed by his children: Kevin Weber, Ken Weber, and Melissa (Nathan) Yost and his grandchildren Brendon (Kaycee) Weber and Hailey Yost, as well as his brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, and many friends. We rejoice that he is reunited with his beloved partner and wife Arlene who passed June 6th, 2021. We miss them both immensely but are comforted that they are together again.

The family will greet friends Saturday, June 18 from 3:00 - 6:00pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49002. He will be laid to rest with Arlene in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
