Melba Jean Denzer, 93, of Portage, passed away on August 14, 2022, at Bickford Cottage in Portage, MI.

She was born in Detroit, MI on July 19, 1929, to Thomas and Mary Eunice "Mollie" (Putnam) Turbiville. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, MI. Jean worked as a Teacher’s Aide for Bangor Township Schools. On September 16, 1950, she married   Robert Denzer. Robert preceded her in death on November 8, 2018. She and Robert enjoyed traveling. They traveled the United States, visiting every state except Hawaii. She was a member of North Euclid Church of God in Bay City, MI. She was an excellent cook. She also enjoyed playing cards with her card group right up to when she moved to Portage. She loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Jean is survived by her children, Thomas (Sandra) Denzer, John (Jan) Denzer, and Susan (Charles) Craves; five grandchildren, Derek (Melissa) Denzer, Nicole (Melissa Brown) Garnaat, Jocelyn (Craig) Theunissen, Jacob (Allison) Denzer, Adia Craves; nine great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Denzer Morton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Annabelle Pinkerton.

Jean’s family would like to offer a special thank you to the loving and caring staff at Bickford Cottage.

Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at Floral Gardens in Bay City, MI, where she will be interred with her husband Robert. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Bickford Cottage. Arrangements were entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 S 9 th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
