Portage

Our loving son Matthew Steven Andrews, 33, passed away after a brief illness, on Good Friday, April 2, 2021. Matthew was born in Kalamazoo Michigan on August 13, 1987 to Steven and Michelle Andrews.

Matthew is survived by his daughters, Rae Lynn Andrews and Daisy, parents, Steven and Michelle Andrews, sisters Sarah and Jessica Andrews and Grandmother Delores Dearborn. He is also survived by his Aunt Laura Andrews, Uncles: Joe (Cindy) Andrews, Brian (Theresa) Andrews, Mike (Kathy) Dearborn, and Aunts; Terry (Eddie) Davidson and Kristie Dawley. He leaves behind cousins; J.R. and Chase Dawley, Jake, Katie, and Erik Dearborn, Megan Davidson, Alec and Alexis Andrews.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents Vince and Clare Andrews, Harry Dearborn, and his beloved cousin Hannah Dawley.

Matt graduated from Portage Northern High School in 2005. He was an exceptional athlete and involved in many sports, playing football, basketball and baseball. At a younger age he was also very active in Taekwondo and actually earned a black belt. Baseball was his passion. He played baseball for the Kalamazoo Maroons for 3 years while in high school. He then attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport Iowa and played 1 year of football. Matt came back home to Kalamazoo and played baseball while attending Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

Matt was a great person who liked, and was liked by every one he met. He always rooted for the disadvantaged and would give you the shirt off his back. He was compassionate and had a big heart. For the past few years, he has devoted his time and energy to his daughters. He was dearly loved by his cousins, and he always supported them in their successes. He was an avid University of Michigan football fan and Detroit Tiger fan. He left way too soon and will be dearly missed.

Private Memorial Visitation and a Private Memorial Mass are being held to honor Matt. The family would like to thank Ascension Borgess Hospice Care for the excellent care that was given to Matt and the Andrews family. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Ascension Borgess Hospice.
