Marvin "George" Block, Jr.

Marvin “George” Block, Jr., age 78 of Kalamazoo, died on May 21, 2023, at Rose Arbor Hospice Home. He was born on April 12, 1945, in Londonderry Northern Ireland to Marvin and Mary (Haggerty) Block. As a toddler, Marvin moved to Michigan and lived with his grandparents George and Elizabeth Block. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian Schools in 1963. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army Reserves. On December 2, 1966, Marvin married Carol Knapper. For over 35 years, he was a paper salesman for Mead Taylor/Martin Press. He did graphic design for Doubleday and later became a realtor for Jaqua. Marvin was a member of the Kalamazoo Craftsman Club and was an Oshtemo Township Board Trustee. Marvin and Carol were members of Hope Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder. His family includes his wife Carol Block; his children: Steve (Mary Beth) Block and Lynn Rocca; his grandchildren: Sidney Block, Dante Rocca, and Berkley Rocca; his brothers: Roger Block, Wayne Block, Mike (Jan) Block, and Patrick Block; his sisters: Kelly Hernandez, Ginger (Steve) Miller, and Yvonne Stein; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents; his brothers: Charles (Loie) Block and Harold (Pat) Block; his sisters-in-law: Connie Block and Alareka Block; and his sisters: Kathy (Mort) Hanlon and Pearl (Jim) Brouwer. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 26th, at 12:00 PM, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Location, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo, followed by a time to gather with the family during lunch at the funeral home.
