Marilyn Elaine (Swift) Stiles

Marilyn (Swift) Stiles, age 78 of Portage, died November 2, 2019 under the loving care of her family and compassionate care team at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was born February 19, 1941 in Hanover, Michigan to the late Henry and Charlotte (Carrier) Swift. She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Marvin E. Stiles, her three children, Karen Simmons, Teresa (Steve) Butler, and David Stiles; seven grandchildren, Zeb, Zak, Nagual, Tonal, Alliahmeen, Dylan, and Holden; and six great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving grandson, Azumah. Marilyn was an honors graduate of Kalamazoo Valley Community College, in child development. She was the proud owner and operator of Flying High Day Care for over 20 years. She loved being a second mom to her day care kids. Marilyn was an active member of Oakland Drive Christian Church for over 40 years. Her devotion to her family and faith were evident in her daily life. Marilyn was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends, always with a camera in her hand. She leaves behind a timeless legacy for her loved ones to carry on in her place. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 411 E Centre Avenue, Portage. Her funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Oakland Drive Christian Church, 7331 Oakland Drive, Portage, with Pastor Jordan Kellicut officiating. Graveside services will follow in Portage South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center.
