Marie (VanderRoest) Smith

Marie Smith passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021, at her home. She was born January 5, 1944, in Kalamazoo, MI a daughter of Peter and Marie (Landt) VanderRoest and had been a lifelong area resident. Marie retired from The Upjohn Company after 26 years of service. She was a faithful member of First Reformed Church of Portage. Marie was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patricia VanderRoest and Kathleen Hartman. On October 9, 1964, Marie married John T. Smith who survives. Also surviving are her children, Steven (Julia) Smith, Julie (Kevin) Tanner, and Scott (Suzanne) Smith; grandchildren, Lucianna "Lucy" Tanner, Sam Tanner, and Russ Tanner; sister, Karen (Ken) Medema; brother-in-law, Jack Hartman; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 30th from 5 to 8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Funeral services will be held 11am Wednesday, December 1st at Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, 9316 Oakland Dr, Portage MI 49024. Marie's family will greet guests at church beginning at 10am and again during a reception following the service. The graveside service will be held in Hope Cemetery.
