Marcia Ann Poolman

Marica Ann Poolman died Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in Grand Rapids, MI.  She was born July 24, 1935, in Grand Rapids, MI the daughter of John and Maude (Van Doeselaar) Hoeksema.  As the second oldest child of six, Marcia grew up on the family farm which started her love for gardening.  She graduated from Imlay City High School and then moved to Kalamazoo with her cousin where she landed a job at the First National Bank of Kalamazoo.  This started her banking career which spanned more than 50 years, staying with the same organization through four name changes, retiring at 72.   

In 1958, she married Richard “Dick” Poolman, and they settled in Kalamazoo.  They started their family in 1963 with the arrival of Kimberly Kay and in 1967, Holly Ann was born. Her faith was very important to her, and she and Dick attended Third Christian Reformed Church for over 65 years, volunteering in nearly every capacity. They enjoyed their retirement years volunteering at Second Impressions supporting the Kalamazoo Christian Schools.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters Kim (Tom) VandeVusse and Holly (Maury) Sullivan as well as her grandchildren, Kevin VandeVusse, Kelsey VandeVusse, Alex Sullivan, and Marissa Sullivan.  Marica spent endless hours with her grandchildren, she wouldn’t dream of missing even one sporting event and/or performance.   

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, March 22, 2023, at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Ave. Kalamazoo, Michigan. Marcia’s family will begin receiving guests at the church starting at 10:00 am and following the service during a light lunch.
