Lexi Ann (Wielhouwer) Doorlag

July 4, 1954 — November 2, 2019

Doorlag, Lexi Ann
7/4/1954-11/2/2019

Lexi Doorlag passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior at Rose Arbor on November 2, 2019 after a brief but intense battle with cancer. Today we praise God that she is 100% cancer free!

Lexi was born on July 4, 1954 to John and Virginia Wielhouwer (Hollemans). She was united in marriage to Jerry Doorlag August 9, 1975. She lived in the Kalamazoo area for her whole life. Lexi lived a life of generosity and service to her Lord and to many in the community. She was passionate about loving and serving those with special needs. Her positive spirit would light up the room wherever she would go. Her love was genuine.

Lexi never lost the ability to play. She had the heart of a child. She absolutely loved to imagine and create with her children, and later in life, with her grandchildren.

Lexi loved being outside in God's creation. Some of her favorite things to do outdoors were sailing, going for walks, camping, mowing the lawn, and gardening. In particular, she loved being in or on the water with her family in South Haven.

She loved music, and touched many lives with her singing. She was a longtime member of Southridge Church, serving faithfully in various capacities. She also served special needs students as a paraprofessional at Haverhill Elementary School.

When faced with the prognosis of a rare and aggressive cancer she said "I may not have long to live, but I will live for Jesus as long as I can." And that is exactly what she did.

One of Lexi's favorite scriptures was Isaiah 41:10 "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Lexi is survived by her husband of 44 years Jerry Doorlag; their three children Nathan (Jennifer) grandchildren Annalise, Logan, Landon, Adelynn; Luke (Justin) grandchildren Avery, Harper; Joel (Amy) grandchildren Heidi, Maggie, Rosalee, Katie; her sister Ginnie (John) Carter; her brother John (Linda) Wielhouwer; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Lexi was preceded in death by her parents John and Virginia Wielhouwer.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 6:00 to 8:00PM on Friday, November 8th at Southridge Church, 6726 Texas Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A Service to Celebrate Lexi's life will begin at 11:00AM Saturday, November 9th at Southridge Church with Rev. Dr. Mark Vanderson officiating. Immediately following the service there will be a reception in the church fellowship hall. A private family burial will be held in South Portage Cemetery.
