Obituary

Laura Metzger, a pillar of warmth and kindness, passed away at the age of 69 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Battle Creek, MI in 1953, Laura's life was an embodiment of dedication, love, and resilience.

A proud alumna of Hastings High School's class of 1971, Laura furthered her education at Kellogg Community College, always keen to learn and enhance her professional skills. She was a dedicated employee of Pennock Hospital in Hastings for a quarter of a century, holding multiple positions during her tenure. Laura also devoted nine years to the Southwest Regional Rehab Center in Battle Creek.

Laura's zest for life shone the brightest during camping adventures with her family. Ludington & Wilderness State Parks held a special place in her heart. Camping alongside friends made trips even more memorable, weaving together tales of laughter, campfires, and starry nights.

Family was the cornerstone of Laura's world. She deeply cherished her nearly 51 years of marriage with Phil Metzger, who stands as a testament to their enduring love. Her daughter and granddaughters were among her most precious treasures. Attending her granddaughters' extracurricular activities and spoiling them with ice cream and other treats were moments she held close. The festive glow of Christmas gatherings held a special place in her heart.

Laura was welcomed to the heavens by her dear sister, Jackie (Dale) Sellers; sister-in-law, Judy Metzger; brother, Walter Thunder; brother-in-law, Frank Elkins; beloved second mother, Patricia Thunder; father, Walter Thunder; stepfather, Jack Munn; and father- & mother-in-law, Manford & Vivian Metzger.

Her legacy is carried forward by her devoted husband, Phil Metzger; daughter, Lisa (Matt) Mace; granddaughters, Madison & Ellie Mace; mother, Willidean Munn; brothers, Roy (Patty) Thunder, John (Deb) Bradley, and Jimmy (Nancy) Bradley; sisters, Kathy (Dan) Clark and Karen Elkins; Metzger brothers-in-law & their spouses; along with numerous nieces & nephews.

Laura was a beautiful person both inside and out and cared deeply for the people around her. She was kind and giving. For those wishing to honor her memory, donations can be directed to the Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association at https://splka.org or the Friends of Ludington State Park at https://friendsofludingtonstatepark.org.
