Kathryn "Kathy" Phyllis (Dutton) Brown

Kathryn "Kathy" Phyllis Brown, 66, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, October 1, 2021. Kathy was born on May 2, 1955, the youngest daughter of Paul and Margaret (Nash) Dutton. She grew up in Kalamazoo and graduated from Loy Norrix High School. She worked at several different jobs and then, later in life, was content to be a "stay-at-home" housewife.

On June 23rd, 1979, Kathy married Earl Dale Brown of Lawton, MI. They lived for several years in the Kalamazoo area, then in Lawton on Bankson Lake. Several years later they moved to the Chicago area with Earl's job change. They made a final move to Florida, where they have lived for the past 26 years.

Her greatest joy was having her family come down to visit and stay for a while. She loved having company, especially if it was her family. She and Earl were both generous in sharing their lovely home on the Anclote River, where you could sit in their Lanai and see dolphin or manatees swim by, or enjoy other wildlife, such as eagles and egrets.

Kathy and Earl loved animals and had several dogs…her favorite was Barney. In later years she had a soft heart for cats and had several…which she called her "kids".

Besides her love of being with family, she loved getting a good bargain at the thrift stores. She loved collecting angels (in whatever form), and dishes and quilts. She had very good taste. She loved going to the ocean, collecting seashells, or going to Blue Lakes up north in Michigan, where the family cottage is. She especially loved Autumn, with all the beautiful colors and going to the Allegan County Fair in September and getting an elephant ear (or two!!).

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, George and Irene Nash and Paul and Ida Dutton; father- and mother-in-law, Earl and Frances Brown; brother-in-law, Tom Brown; and several aunts, uncles and close cousins.

She is survived by her husband, Earl; sisters, Lynette (Ben) DeMink and Jeanette (John) Finlay; sisters-in-law, Sandy (Garland) Yearwood and Mary Brown; nephews, Paul and Ryan DeMink and Jeff (Val) Finlay; nieces, Jena (Mitch) Nycum, and Jennifer (Tim) Harris; great-nephews, Logen DeMink, Zachary and Andrew Finlay, Jonas and Gavyn Nycum, and Micah Harris; and great-nieces, Morgan Meyer and Leanna Harris.

Kathy's family will receive guests Friday morning, October 15, 2021, from 10 to 11:00 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, when the funeral service will begin. A luncheon will follow the service. Private graveside services will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South.
