Joyce passed away peacefully on Monday, November 16, 2020, surrounded by family at her daughter's home in Middleville. She was 83. Joyce was born in Exchange, West Virginia, on October 4, 1937, to parents Paul and Clara (Foster) Petry. She was united in marriage to Ronald Poling on August 15, 1958, in Marion County, West Virginia. Early in their marriage, Ron and Joyce moved from West Virginia to Michigan, where in 1960, they purchased a home on Austin Lake in Portage, which remains the family homestead to this day. Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. She also enjoyed traveling, especially going home to West Virginia every summer when the kids were young. Later, after retirement, she and Ron roamed the country in their fifth-wheel trailer during summers, camping and enjoying the sights. Joyce was employed by Alvan Motor Freight in Kalamazoo for over 30 years, where she performed a variety of duties, starting as a night billing clerk and eventually becoming administrative support to the sales team as well as the welcoming voice for all incoming telephone calls. She was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked hard as the union steward representing fellow union members. Joyce spent much time sewing, knitting, and crocheting throughout the years and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and word games. Surviving Joyce is her husband of 62 years, Ronald Poling; brothers David Blaine Petry and Eston Petry; daughters, Kelly (Thomas) Cox, Karen (Steven) Dimond; son, Kenneth Poling; grandchildren, Chelsea Poling, Samuel and Maryanne Cox, Blaine (Ashley) and Dayton (Talina) Dimond; great-grandchildren Carson and Cade Dimond, Bentley, Aubrey, and Autumn Phillips; along with several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, son Keith Harley Poling, stepmother Fannie Petry, and brother Frederick Petry. A family graveside service will take place with burial at Mount Ever-Rest cemetery. A Zoom memorial service will occur at a later date.
