John Onderlinde

John Onderlinde, 95, entered his eternal home on Monday, May 18, 2020. He was born July 1, 1924 in Kalamazoo, MI, was the last surviving child of 10 born to Edward and Lena (Sollveld) Onderlinde and had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident.

He attended the Kalamazoo Christian Schools and worked growing and delivering celery. John retired from Consumers Power Company after 41 years of service in the appliance repair business and continued his volunteer services at the Kalamazoo Christian Schools Second Impressions Store. His passion and joy was repairing anything that needed fixing for anyone who needed help. He was a lifetime and active member of Grace Christian Reformed Church and devoted to his faith, his family and his friends.

On May 20, 1949, John married the former Abigail M. Engbers who preceded him in death on December 20, 2017. John was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Onderlinde; his parents; and nine siblings, Reen, William, Frank, Edward, Matthew, Cornelius, Gertrude, Cornelia and Janet. Surviving are three children, Robert (Kathy) Onderlinde, Thomas (Nancy) Onderlinde and Mary (Jack) VanderMeer; nine grandchildren and their spouses; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held in West Cooper Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Grace Christian Reformed Church or Kalamazoo Christian School Association.
