Jean Louise (Schipper) Visker

April 15, 1929 — September 21, 2020

Jean Louise Visker went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday, September 21, 2020. She was born April 15, 1929 in Kalamazoo, MI a daughter of Wubbo and Catharina (Schiebergen) Schipper.

Jean leaves a legacy of love and will be remembered for her kindness.

Jean loved her family well. All her children and grandchildren thought they were her favorite. Relationships were a top priority for Jean - if anyone needed a mom or grandma, she would be there for them.

She graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High and fell in love with a handsome red headed basketball player. They had 72 wonderful years of marriage.

Following her Lord was a way of life for Jean. She lived her faith by starting the Calvinette program at her church; being a Stephen Minster; being part of leadership at Bible Study Fellowship; leading Coffee Break ministries; preparing reception meals for numerous funerals; participating in the weekly prayer ministry at church; and cooking dinner for the Friendship Program.

Besides being a wife, mother and grandmother, Jean worked for the Upjohn Company and became a licensed realtor for Visser Real Estate. She also worked the elections as chairperson for over 50 years. She was an excellent cook and baker and rarely made something the same way twice. Many people benefited from meals and goodies that she shared. We all loved stopping by for coffee and a yummy treat anytime.

Jean and Herm were very involved in the lives of their family. Sporting events, plays, musicals, grandparent days were all events they attended with pride.

Jean loved to do counted cross stitch for grandchildren, weddings and celebrating the birth of great-grandchildren.

She will be missed by many and her kindness is a legacy she leaves to her family.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Rena Penning, Chris Schipper, Wilma Koning and Marilyn Musselman; and twin infant great-granddaughters. On September 9, 1948 Jean married Herman L. Visker, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Donald (Marcia) Visker, Thomas (Barbara) Visker, Roger (Susan) Visker, and Kenneth (Kathie) Visker; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, plus 2 more on the way; sister, Carol Schipper; brother-in-law, Howard Koning; and many nieces and nephews.
