Jane Elizabeth (Van Tichelt) Decker

Jane Elizabeth (VanTichelt) Decker passed away peacefully Saturday evening, June 4, 2022 at Park Village Pines in Kalamazoo. She was born January 28, 1931 to Jake and Evelyn (Hutchinson) VanTichelt. Jane grew up in Scotts, MI and graduated from Climax-Scotts schools. On April 22, 1950, she married Kenneth “Jack” Decker, who preceded her in death in October of 2009. She is survived by her son Dean (Dawnn) Decker, and her daughter Cheryl Lettow; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Kelsey) Decker, Cameron Decker, Corbin Decker, Meredith Decker, Samantha (Nick) DeRyke, Sarah Lettow, Mitchell (Emily) Lettow; five great grandchildren, Ava DeRyke, Grace DeRyke, Miles DeRyke, June Decker, and Henry Decker; sister, Charlene (Jim) Longman; sister-in-law, Elaine VanTichelt. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; sister, Lorraine (Bill) Frommann; sister, Marylane Ross; brother, Jake VanTichelt; and son-in-law, Randy Lettow.

Jane was devoted to her family and was a wonderful homemaker. She wore many hats throughout her life; cook, canner, seamstress (she was the queen of put together Halloween costumes the night before), knitter, crocheter and one of her favorites was her yard, flowers and gardens. Getting her hands in the dirt was her best therapy. Family was her life. In addition to raising her children, she had an equal amount of joy helping mold and teach her grandchildren many of life’s lessons.

A graveside service will be held at Gilson Cemetery in Scotts, MI on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at 11:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life that will take place at Schrier Park 850 W. Osterhout Rd. Portage, MI 49002 starting at 2:00pm. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Centrica Care Navigators or SPCA of Southwest Michigan, in memory of Jane.
