James Lorraine Steele

James L. Steele, 92, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019. He was born May 24, 1927 in Kalamazoo to the late Clifford and Ethel (Baker) Steele. Jim was united in marriage to Carol Rendel on May 8, 1964, who preceded him in death in December of 2005. Jim enjoyed snow skiing when he was a young man, fishing, and bowling. His dogs were always a big part of his family. After graduation from high school, he joined the Navy as a seaman and was honorably discharged in 1946. He spent his working life at James River. Jim is survived by his children, Connie (Herman) DeVries and Gary (Maria) Steele; grandchildren, Nick DeVries, James DeVries, Jessie (Alyssa) Steele, Brian Steele and Kelly (Michael) Steele Lopez; several great-grandchildren; and twin brother, Jack (Jan) Steele. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Steele. At the family's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 3:00 PM at West Mendon Community Church, 22994 Portage Lake Rd, Mendon, MI 49072.
