James E. Mackay

Passed away Saturday morning, May 7, 2022 at his home. Jim was born February 18, 1926 in Gagetown, MI the son of John and Mary (Meyer) Mackay. He was a native of Michigan and served 33 months active duty in the U.S. Navy right out of high School during World War II. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Western Michigan University and a Master's Degree from Central Michigan University. Jim was a member of the Michigan Retired School Personnel and the Kalamazoo Chapter. He was also a member of the Military Retired Officer's Association and St. Ambrose Catholic Church. On May 26, 1949 Jim was united in marriage to his loving wife of nearly 73 years, Betty (Goerz) who survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Janice Mackay of Kalamazoo, Diane (Patrick) Hirigoyen of St. Paul, MN; 2 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters. Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
