Kalamazoo Died peacefully at his home on February 14, 2010. He was born July 15, 1927 in Kalamazoo, the son of Harm and Sena Oosterheert Hiemstra. He served in the United States Army 183rd Division during WW II and worked as a Sheet Metal Journeyman for Local #360 #7 from 1950 to 1989. On June 15, 1949 he married Virginia Krup, who survives. Henry is also survived by their children, Lawrence Hiemstra, David Kathy Hiemstra, Nickolas Patrice Hiemstra and Kathy Jim Roth; grandchildren, Matthew Jacqui Hiemstra, Melinda Dan Cameron, Sena Roth, Kyle Roth, Jonathan Sunday Hiemstra, Christopher, Stephanie, and Robert Hiemstra and Heather Birdsall; great grandchildren, Michael, Hayleigh, Aiden, Brailyn, Jordyn and Grier; two sisters, Jessie Arlon LaRoy and Jean Ron Rus; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert, William, Claude, Neil, Dick and Jim; a daughter-in-law, Helen Hiemstra; and a brother-in-law, Don Bush. Henry was a member of Bethany Reformed Church, the Kalamazoo Anchor Lodge #22, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Valley of Grand Rapids, Saladin Shrine Temple, Kalamazoo Shrine Club, Shrine Clubs of : Grand Valley of Grand Rapids LM, Cass County LM, and Battle Creek, Unit Council in Grand Rapids, Desert Sheiks Harley Davidson Motorcycle Patrol LM, Hillbilly Clan #88, Royal Order of Jesters Court #11, El Haji #7; Kalamazoo Loyal Order of the Moose #88 LM, Past Governor, Legion of the Moose, Fellowship Degree, Otsego Elks Club #1711, American Legion #36, 40/8 Voiture #161, VFW Otsego #3030 and Dad's of Foreign Service #3030 LM; in the Saladin Temple, he served as 1st Ceremonial Master, Special Potentates Aide, Active Potentates Aide since 1986. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 12:00 Noon in the Bethany Reformed Church 1833 S. Burdick St., with Rev. Dr. Robert Terwilliger officiating, followed by a luncheon at 1:30 PM in the Moose Lodge, #88, 9650 Portage Rd. A private family interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, with Masonic Honors at 7:30 PM. Memorials may be given to the Shrine Children's Hospital, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or Bethany Reformed Church.
