Byron Center

Gertrude Klooster passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Samaritas Senior Living in Grand Rapids, MI. She was born September 8, 1936 in Kalamazoo to the late Henry and Jenny (nee Jager) Triezenberg. She was a longtime Kalamazoo resident but had most recently lived in Grand Rapids.

Trudy grew up in the Kalamazoo area and attended the local Christian Schools, graduating from Kalamazoo Christian High School. She married John Klooster, a recent immigrant from the Netherlands in 1957. He became a Pastor in the Christian Reformed Church in the 1970s after David, her only child, was born. After John became a pastor, the family first moved to Toronto, Canada, then later to Seattle, Washington, where he served many churches. She worked most of her adult life as a bookkeeper, working for Kregel Books and Mays of Michigan, both in Grand Rapids. While in Seattle, Trudy worked for Highline Hospital. After John's death in 1995 in Seattle, she moved back to the Kalamazoo area and finished her career at Langeland Family Funeral Homes. She had a soft spot in her heart for those in need, regularly contributing to the Kalamazoo Deacons Conference and Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. She enjoyed time with family and friends, as well as traveling. Trudy loved cooking, baking and canning, and was accomplished at many of the domestic arts. Later in life, she took great enjoyment in spoiling and spending time with her granddaughters, April and Allison Klooster.

Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Jenny Triezenberg; husband, John Klooster in 1995; sisters-in-law, Kina (John) Wagenaar and Trientje (Lammert) De Groot; brothers-in-law, Ben (Evelyn) Kruissel, Ralph Klooster, Jakob Klooster, and Roger Bush.

She is survived by her son, David and Michelle (nee Wildeboer) Klooster; granddaughters, April (Cliff) Stumme and Allison Klooster; and sisters-in-law, Ina Klooster of the Netherlands, Ria Bush, and Marlene (Duane) Scholten.

Private services will be held for the family. Trudy will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries.
