Frederick Peter Skalski,76, of Mattawan passed away on August 27, 2019 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Born on March 20, 1943 in, Kalamazoo, the son of the late Peter W. Skalski and Mary L. (Papierz) Skalski. On September 28, 1974, he was united in marriage with Debora Lee (DeBaldo) Skalski, who survives him. They celebrated forty-five years of marriage. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked as a Radio Technician for the Michigan State Police. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Portage. He was an avid HAM Radio Operator. He volunteered and served his community in many capacities, most notably with the V.A. and with St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Surviving are his loving wife, Debora Skalski; two children, Vincent Skalski and Heather Hixson; three grandchildren, Katerina, Lillian and Alexander Hixson; two brothers, Richard (Mary Francis) Skalski and Felix (Jean) Skalski and one sister, Francesca (Ronald) Nelson; many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on September 10, 2019 at the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Avenue Portage, MI 49024, where a Rosary Service will take place prior to the visitation at 9:45 a.m. The Funeral Mass will follow the visitation at 11 a.m., with Rev. Fr. Albert Kembrei, officiating. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 W. Dickman Rd. Augusta, MI 49012. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Frederick`s memory may be given to Holy Family Radio at EWTN in Vicksburg.
