Frederick Rex Brail

BRAIL, Frederick R.

Frederick R. Brail passed away in Dearborn on January 7th, 2020 at 102 years old. He was born on September 10 in 1917, son of Max Arthur and Zelma L. Rice (Brail). Fred lived in Dearborn MI, prior Kalamazoo MI. Frederick Graduated from Scottville High School. He Had earned a B.S. degree from Central Michigan University in 1942. He obtained his Master's degree from The Ohio State University in 1948. In-between his bachelors and master's degrees, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an engineering officer LSGT 1064, Pacific Theatre.

Once WWII ended, he taught at Muskegon, MI public schools. The vast majority of his career was spent at Western Michigan University first as a professor and then retired as director of the Educational Resources Center.

Some Organizations he participated in were: past President and life member of the Kalamazoo Optimist Club, past President of the MI Audio-Visual Association, life member of the Michigan Education Association and life member of the National Education Association. Frederick was also a life member of Phi Delta Kappa and the Masonic Lodge #545.

He enjoyed wood working, wine making, and stone polishing. Fred had a passion for gardening as he cross-bred day lilies and enjoyed learning about gardening techniques. He loved to teach his grandchildren about gardening and give a great work ethic, but his largest passion was his Wife, Marian L. (VanHoesen).

He is survived by: his Daughter Sue Ann Corser, granddaughter Kelly Murray, grandson David B. Murray. He is also survived by his Great grandchildren Matthew Andreoli, Shelby Andreoli, Courtney Kuntzleman, Stephen Mark, Brandon Mark, Katelyn Mark, Jason Mark and Jordan Wireman. He also has 4 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His legacy will live on and he will truly be missed by many.

A memorial service for Frederick will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. The family will visit guests an hour prior to the service. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South.
