Ella Jean (VanGombos) Ashbrook

Jean Ashbrook, 80, went to be with the Lord on November 25, 2019. She was born April 18, 1939 in Aurora, Indiana to the late Edward W. and Bessie P. VanGombos.

Jean will be remembered as a strong-willed but humble Mother and Grandmother. She was always supportive and encouraging to her family, the "wind beneath their wings." Jean maintained a strong Christian faith and was a five-year member at Northeastern Baptist Church. She enjoyed word puzzles and spent time crocheting and doing needle work. Jean and her daughter, Deb, worked together to complete the Great Lakes Challenge, a 1296 mile walking goal at the Borgess Fitness Center, after 4 years of hard work.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Ashbrook and sister, Bessie Ruth Dunn.

She is survived by her children, Deb Ashbrook and David (Annette) Ashbrook; grandchildren, Timothy and Joseph Ashbrook; brothers, Edward (Nedra) VanGombos and Jerry (Suzanne) VanGombos; brother-in-law, Albert Dunn; sister-in-law, Beulah Ashbrook; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends Monday, December 2, 2019 from 4-7:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S Burdick St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, December 3 at 11:00 AM at Northeastern Baptist Church, 6536 E G Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49048. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
