April 9, 1922 — March 16, 2020

Elaine Virginia Jarman TenBrink passed away on March 16, 2020 at the age of 97 years old. She was born April 9, 1922 to Eris and Georgia Jarman of Hastings, Michigan. She was the oldest of their 5 children—Duane, Maxine, Eleanor, and Eugene. The Jarman family enjoyed a cottage on Gun Lake from 1942 to 2006 when it was replaced with a beautiful year round home built by her niece Diane Gaertner and her husband Mike. Many fond family memories. Elain attended Hastings Public Schools and graduated in 1940. She attended Maher's Business College in Kalamazoo. Her first job was at Burgess Seed and Plant Co. in Galesburg, MI for 12 years.

On September 18, 1948 she married Gordon H. TenBrink in a ceremony at a church in Galesburg. In 1950, they built their family home at 8635 S. Westnedge in Portage, MI. They later adopted a son, Chris, and a daughter, Julie. Elaine worked at LeVene LLC business in Kalamazoo for many years. She retired in 1997 and was given a trip to Alaska for she and Gordon to celebrate the occasion.

She was very active in her church, Portage First United Methodist, now called Pathfinder at the same location. For 35 years, she taught Sunday school and helped new adult leaders teach the curriculum. In the late 1960s, she was a member of the committee who started a daycare at the church.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Duane; sister, Maxine; husband, Gordon; and children, Chris and Julie.

She is survived by a sister, Eleanor Ostroth; brother, Eugene; stepdaughter, Linda; and many nieces and nephews that she loved.

In lieu of flowers, Elaine requested donations may be made to either Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or Pathfinder Church.
