David L. Gallivan

February 10, 1942 — September 5, 2019

David, "DL" to many, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2019 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. David was preceded in death by his wife Diane in 2018. They were married for 52 years. He is survived by his son, Patrick Gallivan (Kalkaska); his daughter, Lorin Gallivan (Portage); granddaughters, Lyndsey and Lily Case (Portage); sister, Moni Green (Hope Island, Australia); brother, Christopher Gallivan (Saline); and many nieces and nephews.

David was born on February 10, 1942 in Springfield Massachusetts to Leo and Margaret Gallivan. As a child, he lived in various cities in Michigan, Ontario, and New England. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business Administration in 1963. Upon graduation, he took a sales position with AB Dick Company in Detroit. It was there he met and married the love of his life, Diane. In 1972, they moved to Kalamazoo to open D.L. Gallivan Inc. With the evolution of document reproduction, their company became very successful in the sales and service of copy machines, fax machines and related products. The business, under his name, still continues today. For years he was an active member of the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen Club, in which he served on the Board of Directors and was chosen "Craftsman of the Year" in 1998 for his dedication to the Association.

David and Diane traveled worldwide, yet always had time and energy to support many local activities and organizations. He was a longtime season ticket holder and supporter of Western Michigan University football, hockey and basketball, as well as Michigan State football. He remained an active member of Beta Theta Phi Fraternity throughout his life.

Few things brought David as much pleasure as visits and time spent with Lyndsey and Lily. They loved to tease, joke and laugh together. He rarely missed an opportunity to give his advice or share a story with them.

Similarly, David loved and was grateful for Diane and his many friends. Whether traveling, attending events or simply socializing, he thoroughly enjoyed their company and felt they were all a part of his extended family.

David was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and always enjoyed a good laugh. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
