MORRISSEY, DALE
of Naples
formerly of Richland, MI Dale Morrissey age 73 of Richland, MI and Naples, FL died at Moorings Park in Naples on March 4, 2009 after a long illness. He was born February 5, 1936 in Flint, MI to Vaughn Morrissey M.D. and Leona Gray Morrissey. Dale was preceded in death by his sister Janice Schuen. He is survived by his devoted wife Patricia nee Palmer. They were united in marriage on June 16, 1961. Also surviving are his children, Stephen Michelle Morrissey of Naples, FL and Alan "Alex" Morrissey of Plainwell, MI; granddaughter, Morgan Morrissey. Nephews John Schuen, James Schuen; nieces Kristen Schuen and Katherine Deighan. Dale lived in a variety of communities and preferred small towns and villages to big cities. His favorite childhood memory is of growing up in Frankfort, MI in the late 40's when he spent summers with his grandparents Stephen and Ada Morrissey.
Beginning in the early 60's we visited my in-laws in Naples over the Christmas holidays. Although Naples is much larger now, the character of the community has been retained. We lived in a small resort town in Michigan about an hour from where I worked. Great during the summer, but not much going on during the winter months, and it was a long drive to get anywhere. He graduated from the University of Michigan, B.A., M.S. and Ohio University M.A., M.B.A.. While a graduate assistant in college, Dale tutored foreign students, and with graduate work in Physiology, Chemistry, Industrial Psychology and Economics, he pursued a career in the international branch of the pharmaceutical industry.
During his career he worked for Eli Lilly in Indianapolis as well as the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, MI. Marketing Research and Strategic Planning were specific areas of interest and he also taught evening classes in both subjects at Western Michigan University. In Michigan, Dale was president of the lake association at Gull Lake, a Life Member and volunteer guide at the Gilmore Car Museum and member of the 'Mad Dogs and Englishmen Sports Car Club'. In addition, Dale was also a founding member of the Irish-American club of Kalamazoo. In Naples, Dale was a member of the 'Minor League'. A memorial service at First Presbyterian Church, Richland, MI is being planned for the summer. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Gilmore Car Museum 6865 Hickory Rd., Hickory Corners MI 49060; http://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org / or a charity of one's choice.
