Curtis Edward Flowers

March 29, 1950 — October 31, 2019

Curtis Edward Flowers passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, October 31, 2019. He was born on March 29, 1950 in Grand Rapids, MI. He graduated from Grand Rapids Union High School in 1968, and kept in touch with his graduating class to this day. From there he went on to Grand Rapids Junior College where he earned his associates degree, but more notable an accomplishment was meeting Linda. They dated for a year before getting married and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary next year. Curt loved his family and responded to everything with "that's my girls" despite the well-known fact that he very much enjoyed his sons-in-law. He was the very best son-in-law himself, always doting on mother-in-law Jackie. In fact Jackie said it best, "He always made time for everyone". Curt worked for Meijer's for 18 years before serving as Clerk for the City of Parchment. After 25 years he retired, but was always ready and willing to go back as needed. Curt enjoyed belonging to, and serving on, many professional organizations. He was a member of the Michigan Municipal Clerks Association, Michigan Municipal Finance Officers Association, and the Parchment Rotary. He made good use of his skills serving as the Treasurer for the Parchment United Methodist Church, and most recently First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo. Curt had many interests and had a knack for connecting with others that held the same interests. He was a member of the Parchment United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. Music was a big part of his life and he never met an organ he didn't sit down and play. He belonged to the Southwest Michigan American Guild of Organists, worked on the Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival and the Kindleberger Summer Festival of the Performing Arts. Although most would describe Curt as a simple man, he was anything but boring. To know him was to love him, to meet him made you a friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Bonnie Nuyen and his faithful dog, Bozwell, AKA "Killer". Curtis is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Jennifer (Mark) Culley and Emily (Steven) Freitag; six granddaughters, Adrienne, Alexa and Sofia Culley and Olivia, Kaitlyn and Natalie Freitag; mother-in-law, Jacquelyn Nuyen and brother-in-law, Ronald Nuyen. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 3rd, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial &Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Monday, November 4th, at Parchment United Methodist Church, 225 Glendale Blvd, Parchment MI 49004, with Rev. Thomas A. Davenport, officiating. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 11 a.m. and again following the service at a reception held in The Fountains Banquet Center, 535 S. Riverview Dr. Memorials may be directed to Parchment United Methodist Church - Organ Fund. To view Curtis' personalized web page, please visit https://www.langelands.com
