Christy Ann (Strong) Morey

Christy A. Morey, 66, of Kalamazoo, passed away on Tuesday October 20, 2020 in Grand Rapids, MI . She was born on December 20, 1953 in Joliet, IL to A. Parel and Marian (Fara) Strong.
Christy is survived by husband of 40 years, Steven L. Morey; Daughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Wiley; Son, Matthew (Luxmie) Morey; Parents-in-law, Forrest (Alice) Morey. She is further survived by nephews and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews all of whom she adored.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her aunt, Florence Fara; brother -in-law, David Morey; and nephew, Mitchell Morey.
Christy was born in Joliet, but lived many places while growing up, including New York City, before her family settled in Sturgis, MI, where she graduated High School. She attended trade school in Minnesota and worked as a travel agent in Chicago before taking a job in the records department at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She met her husband Steven on New Year's Eve 1979, and they were married within the year. 2 children would follow shortly after marriage.
Looking for a different environment and new opportunities, the Morey's moved to Albany, IN to manage Christy's 200 year-old family farm. When her parents became ill they returned to Kalamazoo to assist in their care. She kept busy with a few home businesses during these years. She belonged to the National Association of Senior Move Managers, helping other families like she did her parents.
Christy was an amazing mother to her children and care-taker for many others who found their way in to her life. An energetic optimist by nature, if you needed someone to brighten your day, you'd give her a call.
Christy lost her battle with MDS bone marrow cancer after a fight that kept her hospitalized for several months. If you had a chance to meet her, even briefly, you will know what a loss this is for not only her loving family, but many friends.
She had just started the first steps towards a bone marrow transplant. Donations can be made in her honor with Be The Match.
