Al was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman responsible for transmitting and receiving radio signals aboard an aircraft. Al started his career at Eaton Corporation in Kalamazoo as a tool designer, progressing to Manager of Tool Design and Quality Assurance Manager, retiring after 42 years. Active in scouting with his three sons, he enjoyed making soap box derby cars, camping, and merit badge work. He enjoyed archery, crafting his own arrows, woodworking, bowling, swimming and workouts at the Borgess Fitness Center. He loved playing games, especially cribbage with his grandchildren. In retirement Al and his wife, Berniece, traveled throughout the continental U.S., to Hawaii, Mexico, Germany and Scandinavia.

On June 7, 1952 Al was united in marriage to his loving wife, Berniece (Pringle) with whom he shared 69 remarkable years. Surviving Al are his children: David (Linda) of Kalamazoo; Ronald (Robin) of Appleton, WI; and daughter-in-law Debbie Buck-Monroe (Cal); his grandchildren: Jessica (Josh); Heather (Jason); Michael (Michelle); and Kara (Kevin); great-grandchildren: Evangeline, Fletcher and Claire; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
