Thomas Veld, Jr.

Thomas Veld, Jr., age 98 of Kalamazoo, passed away on June 22, 2023. He was born on September 8, 1924, in Kalamazoo, the son of Thomas and Geraldine (Sportel) Veld. Thomas was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and Pine Lake Vocational School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII for two and a half years. On March 4, 1950, he married Norma Legerstee in Kalamazoo, Michigan. They shared 73 years together until her death in 2020. He was a member of First Reformed Church and Second Reformed Church since 1950. After retiring as owner and operator of the Cooper Foundry after 35 years, Thomas was the janitor for twenty years at First Reformed Church. Thomas liked spending time with the Primetimers group at church. He enjoyed his family, golfing and fishing. His family includes his children: Janet (Tim) Osterman and Barbara Veld; his grandchildren: Jeff Osterman and Becky (Tom) Knapik; and his great-grandchildren: Tyler Osterman and Emma Knapik. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma, his daughter Sandra Veld, and Barbara's fiancé David Zemlick. Visitation will begin 12:30pm Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Second Reformed Church, 2323 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo MI 49008, where services will begin at 1:30pm. Private interment in Mt.
