Steven Arthur Shearer

Steven Arthur Shearer, age 73, of Kalamazoo passed away at home unexpectedly on July 18, 2023. He was born December 26, 1949 in Vicksburg, Michigan to the late Lyle and Shirley (Bingham) Shearer.

Steve graduated from Hackett Catholic High School in 1968. He married Ronda Rice, on June 28, 1969. He worked at General Motors/Fisher Body for 34 years and retired in 2002. In between this time, he was drafted into the Army in 1970 and served his country until 1972.  Steve loved to stay busy and worked several jobs until 2013, where he started working at DeLisle Associates LTD. as an industrial hygienist. He made friends easily wherever he went and enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, pool, and many other social activities. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone he touched.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: baby Lyle Truman, Wally, John, and Judy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ronda Shearer; Children: Christy, Aaron (Jodi), and Ben (Adelle) Shearer; Grandchildren: Corey, Erika, Jacob, Zachary, MacKenzie, Jena, Ashley, Andrew, Cory, Dawson and Aylah; ten great grandchildren; Brother, Jim; Sisters, Sharon Jenson, Mary Cherney and Alma Geary; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A committal service with military honors will take place Thursday, July 27 at 10:00 am at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, Michigan 49012.  Those wishing to attend are asked to arrive 10 minutes early at the assembly area.  A memorial gathering will be held Friday, July 28, 2023 from 4pm-8pm at the Portage VFW 5855, 8845 South Sprinkle Road, Portage, Michigan 49002.

Donations in Steven’s memory may be made to the Portage VFW 5855 or Schoolcraft American Legion Post 475.
