Stephen Michael Tolmacs

Born March 26, 1949; Died March 17, 2023. A gentle loving peaceable Christian Man, Steve was a resident of the Portage Road Group Home for Developmentally Disabled Adults for most of his adult life. At age 9, Steve was sent to Coldwater State Home where he lived for many years, then later when group homes were established within the community, Steve was transferred to a group home in Kalamazoo, then later to Portage Road. During those years, Steve enjoyed numerous outings including several cruises, Disney World visits, Detroit Tigers baseball games, being in a special Boy Scouts Troop, going to day school, displaying his special pieces of art at Art Hop, and formal dances at the Radisson.

Steve’s family was his greatest love. Surviving are his two sisters, Karen S. (David) Jako, Charlene M. (Rick) Lemons, Nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Steve was preceded in passing by his parents, Mike and Dorothy Tolmacs, and his nephew Jeffrey S. Jako.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial gathering will be held in Steve’s honor from 10 am to 11 am, with a memorial service immediately following on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 411 East Centre Ave, Portage, Michigan 49002.

Memorial contributions may be made to Residential Opportunities, an organization that oversees group home management, or Centrica Care Navigators, a Hospice care group.
