Stephen D. Rickey

Passed away Friday evening, April 7, 2023. Stephen was born May 6, 1965 in Elkhart, IN and was a graduate of White Pigeon High School class of 1983. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army from 1983-1986 and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1995.

He was employed by the Kalamazoo Township Police Department as a police officer for 31 years beginning in 1987, retiring from duty in 2018. Additional employment included security at Bronson Methodist Hospital beginning in 2019. Steve loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his two sons.  He was an avid fan of both Notre Dame and the Chicago Cubs and attended many baseball, basketball and football games with them over the years.  He also enjoyed golf, bowling, camping, riding his motorcycle across the state of Michigan and much more.

Stephen is survived by his sons, Nathan Rickey and Collin Rickey; parents, Dan and Carol Praklet; sister, Lori (Scott) Hembree; and nephews, Kyle and Travis Hembree. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas; and his brother, Scott Rickey. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday May 13, 2023 from 3:00-6:00pm at the Kalamazoo Fraternal Order of Police, 1721 Riverview Dr, Kalamazoo, MI 49004.
