Passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, with her husband by her side. Ruth was born on June 23, 1946, in Caledonia, Michigan, to the late Lauren “Jack” and Isadore (Finkbeiner) Gardner. In her early years, Ruth attended school to become a nurse and eventually married her first husband, Robert Schanz, who passed away in 2006. On December 6, 2008, Ruth married her best friend David.
Surviving Ruth is her husband, David Strong; children, Robert Jr. (Debbie) Schanz, Angela (Eric) Smith, Stacey (Rick) Post; step children, Matthew (Laura) Strong, Adam (Carrie) Strong, Emily (Heather) Barnett; grandchildren, Jessica (Stephen) Stuifbergen, Katelynn (Sabrina) Vandefifer, Bobby Schanz, Molinda (David) Wilkins, Isaac (Kristina) Smith, Isaiah Smith, Kyle (Madeline) Post, Emma Post, Celia Post; step grandchildren, Colton Strong, Gabby Strong, Lauren Barnett; great grandchildren, Luke, Owen, Chloe, Greyson, Wyatt, Rory, August, Bodie; and her brother, Robert (Sandy) Gardner. Preceding her in passing are her parents, and her first husband, Robert Schanz.
Friends are welcome to join the family for visitation on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 1pm to 2pm, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009. A funeral service will be held following visitation at 2pm with a luncheon immediately following the service at the same location. The graveside service will take place the following day, Monday, April 15, 2024,10:00 am at Lindsley Cemetery in Cheshire Township, Michigan.
