Ronald R. Vining

Ronald Rene Vining, 88, went to be with the Lord on Friday evening, November 17, 2023. Ronald was born October 6, 1935, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Ralph and Lura (Baker) Vining. Ronald was united in marriage to Betty (Baylis) on June 24, 1961, in Ionia, Michigan. 

Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, walking with his friend Fred, and working in his garden. He retired after 35 years at Simpson Paper Mill in Vicksburg. While his memory was fading, his wit and charm were never-ending. Whether he was greeting you with a smile and a handshake, making people laugh, or letting you know, “I miss you when I don’t see you!”, Ron always made the room brighter with his laughter and presence. 

Ron is survived by his wife, Betty (Baylis) Vining; his children, Cynthia Vining, Pamela (Jeffrey) Ball, and Kathy (Anthony) Gettig; ten grandchildren, Ryan Ball, Nicholas (Emilie) Ball, Hannah (Eric) Westra, Ashleigh (Joshua) Shokorzadeh Shokohi, Elise Gettig, Bethany (Ryan) Smith, Ty Gettig, Luke Gettig, Violet Gettig, and Faye Gettig; nine great grandchildren, Negi, Oliver, Izzy, Tidus, Azaniah, Boaz, Mabel, Michal, and Nora; one brother, Royal (Joy) Vining; and several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Lura (Baker) Vining; siblings, Eugene, Lawrence, Nancy, and Judy. 

The family will greet friends on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 10-11 AM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services 3296 S 9th Street Kalamazoo, MI 49009 where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM.  A luncheon will be served immediately after with interment in Ft. Custer National Cemetery beginning at 2 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Cross Community Church of the Nazarene in Portage, Michigan.
