Ronald J. Smith, Sr.

Kalamazoo

Passed away Friday, April 28, 2023, at home surrounded by family. Ronald was born on December 18, 1950, in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Edward and Betty Smith. After graduating from high school, he went on to join the Air Force and served his country proudly in the Vietnam War May 13. 1969 through August of 1971. Ronald married the love of his life, Nancy Ritter, who he spent his life with until her passing in 2010.

Surviving Ronald are his children, Melissa Smith, Carl (Carrie) Smith, Steve (Joy Peck) Smith; Eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and Sister-in-Law Alberta and Brother-in-Law LeRoy. Several nieces and nephews.  Best friends Pam and Dave Munson.

He is preceded in passing by his wife Nancy, children, Butch and Angie Smith; Parents Ed and Betty Smith. Siblings - Bill, Sandy, Nancy, Ed Smith Jr.  His friend that was like a brother to him, Ron Rabb.

To honor Ronald, a graveside service will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South, 3941 South Westnedge Avenue, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49008, on Friday May 5, 2023 at 2:30pm.  Following the graveside services the family invites family and friends to join them at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1332 Branch Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49001, immediately following the graveside service.  In lieu of flowers please direct any memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital or Kalamazoo Gospel Women and Children Ministries.
