Ronald Lee Schoonbeck

Ronald Lee Schoonbeck, 70 of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023. He was born in Kalamazoo on June 30, 1953, to Cornelius and Grace (Nap) Schoonbeck.

Ron graduated from Portage Northern High School and went right to work at DeNooyer Chevrolet. He was a certified auto technician and maintained his Automotive Service Excellence credentials by travelling to Detroit several times throughout his career to keep up with the fast-paced ever changing industry.

Ron married the love of his life, Virginia (Ginger) Cornelia, on April 16, 1977, in Kalamazoo. They were blessed with over 46 years together and a wonderful family.

Ron loved to tinker with anything to make it better or better looking. He loved to teach his children and grandchildren the art of fixing things without breaking the bank. He remodeled the family home and made luxurious improvements to the camper he and Ginger spent summers in. They loved to sit at the campground and welcome all that came to visit, friends and family always had a spot around their campsite.

Ron also enjoyed regularly playing Bingo with his family and friends at the Paw Paw Lion’s club, watching the Detroit Tigers, and swinging in his favorite camp swing at Timber Trails. Above all, he loved his family; his wife, children, and grandchildren unconditionally. He and Ginger loved to take their grandkids with them often just to spoil them and enjoy their company. His sons fondly remember all the skills and lessons he taught them, most importantly not to be afraid to try.

Ron is survived by his adoring wife, Ginger; sons Bruce and Kevin (Jennifer); grandchildren Rose, McKenzie, Kevin Jr., Haylee, and Remington; sister-in-law Debra Carlon; brother-in-law Dennis (Rebecca) Cornelia, and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death his parents Cornelius and Grace; and his siblings Barbara and Larry.

A visitation will be held for Ron on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 5:30 at Langeland Family Funeral Home 3926 S. 9th St. Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A celebration of life will follow the visitation at the Paw Paw Lion’s Club 59050 County Rd. 665 Paw Paw, MI 49079 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
