Roger Jack Myers

January 8, 1937 — June 8, 2023

Kalamazoo, MI

Roger Jack Myers, “Jack”, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born January 8, 1937, in Kalamazoo son of Robert F. and Lucille (Herbert) Myers. Jack grew up in Richland, MI, graduating in 1955 from Richland High School. He is still close friends with many of the people he met during that time.

Jack received a scholarship to attend Western Michigan University as a music major with the desire to become a band director. He switched his major to business and graduated with a degree in business administration. His love of music continued though, and he was a member of the WMU Marching Band throughout his college career. He later loved picking his guitar in his spare time and inspired both his son and grandson to learn guitar as well.

Jack began his working career in sales for the Brown Company in Parchment, MI. He later took a job with Parker Hannifin Corporation Brass Products Division in Otsego, MI where he spent the next 30 years working in sales and marketing and retired as General Sales Manager in 2002. While working full time, Jack also served in the US Army Reserves, earned the rank of sergeant, and was honorably discharged in April of 1966.

Jack was a long-time member of Sunnyside United Methodist Church and a life member of the Kalamazoo Antique Auto Restorer’s Club. He had a love of old cars and he collected and restored many throughout his life. Although he sold many of these cars later in life, Jack held on to his prized 1957 Chevy Convertible which he and his son, Mike, restored in 1976.

Jack enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Pine Lake, fishing with his lifelong buddies and son, and hanging out with his family and neighbors who became close friends. He especially enjoyed sitting around the campfires in the evening. In the fall, Jack looked forward to spending time deer hunting. Jack enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with his wife, Shari. He loved walking on the beach and fishing along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert Myers, and Richard Myers. In September of 1959, Jack married the former Sharon “Shari” Kinney who survives. Also surviving are his son, Michael (Sherry) Myers; grandchildren, Kristyn (Greg) Claffey and Kevin Myers; great-grandchildren, Graysen Claffey and Brecken Claffey; sister, Nancy Allen; and several nieces and nephews.
