Robert M. Tanja

Robert M. Tanja, 81, went to his heavenly home peacefully on April 27, 2023, while surrounded by his family. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Ann (Formsma) Tanja. He will be fondly remembered by his children, Judson Tanja, John (Elizabeth) Tanja, and Kara Tanja; his grandchildren, Leo Tanja, Ruby June, Iris Tanja, Mitchell (Courtney) Tanja, and Katherine (Luke) Austin; brother, Jon Tanja; and two nieces.

Bob retired from General Motors at the age of 50 and enjoyed 30 years of traveling, summers in South Haven, and grandkids’ sporting and school events. He had the gift of gab and a great sense of humor. Throughout his life he was involved in his church, soccer, downhill skiing, and boating. He was a regional director for AYSO and was instrumental in creating the AYSO soccer complex in Kalamazoo. He was a member of the Singing Crusaders Male Chorus for over 45 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Thursday morning, May 4, 2023, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th St, Kalamazoo MI 49009. Bob’s family will receive guests at the funeral home beginning at 9:30 and following the service during a light reception. Private graveside services will be held in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
