OPT?HOFF, Robert Portage Mr. Opt?Hoff passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 12, 2006 at Borgess Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born December 21, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Herbert and Martha Sager Opt?Hoff. Bob left school to become a gardener with his father. On February 1, 1943, he joined the United States Army and served over 3 years, during World War II in the 505th AAA Gun Battalion earning himself a rank of Technician 5th Grade. On March 2, 1950, Bob was united in marriage to Dena Timmer. They were married for 20 years. Bob spent his life as a carpenter and he worked for several contractors in the Portage and Kalamazoo area until his retirement in the mid 1980?s. He was a member of the Disable American Veterans-Buck Crosby Post #6, where he was the past Commander and former treasurer. Bob was a longtime member of First Reformed Church of Portage. He was always helping his family and friends with projects like building decks, playhouses, and home improvements. Surviving are 5 children, Karen Jeff Foster of Vicksburg, Dawn Hart of Portage, Bonnie Rey Granado of Portage, and Jimm Opt?Hoff of Kalamazoo; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 1 brother, Neil Betty Opt?Hoff of Kalamazoo; 1 sister-in-law, Lorraine Opt?Hoff of Kalamazoo; and former wife, Dena Hettinga of Kalamazoo. Funeral services for Bob will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., with Pastor Ed Martin officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or Senior Services. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday tomorrow at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Wednesday today at the funeral home.
