Kalamazoo

Passed away Thursday afternoon, February 22, 2024 at his home. Bob was born March 12, 1928 in Kalamazoo, the son of LeRoy and Winifred (Merreman) Newton. Bob worked at Consumers Power Company for 44 years. He was an active member in the union, UWUA Local 150, where he was the treasurer for 21 years and delegated to many conventions.  After retiring, Bob and Maxine moved to Kentucky. They returned to Michigan after five years, yet they still maintained their Kentucky home.  Bob enjoyed working in the yard, especially if there was a tree in need of a trim. 

On March 22, 1949, Bob was united in marriage to his loving wife of nearly 75 years, Maxine (Perkins), who survives. Also surviving are his children, R. Steven Newton (Deb Baird), David (Doris) Newton, Liz (Larry) Willis, Cathy (Dan) Vaughn, Rebecca (Daniel) Emmons, Mark Newton; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Martin Vaughn; and brothers and sisters, Jean, Mary Lou, Donald, LeRoy, Richard, and Winifred. Friends may meet the family from 12:00pm -1:00pm Wednesday, February 28 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 205 East Maple, Climax, MI 49034 where funeral services will be held at 1:00pm.
