LUYENDYK, Mr. Robert J. Kalamazoo, MI Died Thursday afternoon November 9, 2006. Robert was born February 27, 1921 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Peter and Katherine Dirkse Luyendyk. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Navy. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and owned Luyendyk Finishing Company for 20 years, retiring in 2000. He also owned Luyendyk and Cook Sporting Goods years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis J. Luyendyk on March 15, 1991; a son, James Luyendyk in 2002; and a brother, Howard Luyendyk. He is survived by 3 children, Robert Cindy Luyendyk of Plainwell, Michael Mary Luyendyk of Cottonwood, AZ; and Nancy Christopher West of Vicksburg; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Victor Siemers; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 1 o'clock Tuesday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service. Private burial will take place in Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Greater Kalamazoo.
