Robert “Bob” Harris of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on September 5, 2024, at the age of 92. Robert was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on November 12, 1931.
He was a 1949 graduate of Lawton High School. Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in the Korean War as a Sergeant 1st Class until 1956.
Bob was a purchasing agent for Mead Paper Products, retiring in 1989. In his retirement, Bob shared the love of travel with his family and friends. In his traveling experiences, he visited all 50 states, making sure to get a photo of each capital building. Bob’s favorite card game was Hand & Foot. He had many friends who enjoyed the game as well, and he would play with different friends 3-4 times per week.
Bob was a devoted husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa. He always made sure to attend his grandkids’ functions, even while wintering in Florida—he would return to Michigan to watch them in their events. He was their biggest fan.
He had a calendar where he made sure to note important events in others’ lives. He would reach out with cards celebrating someone’s birthday, anniversary, or just a “you are on my mind.”
Bob was a member of Berean Baptist Church for over 40 years. He spent many years volunteering at the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission and Gideon Bible. He took pride in ministering to the community. He was a prayer warrior and made it a point to pray for family and friends daily.
Robert was preceded in death by his wives, Patricia and Margaret; his parents, Leslie Harris and Isa (Stillwell) Harris; and siblings, Verlyn (Rosalyn), Geraldine (Conrad), Larry, and Virginia.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Teri (Stu) Warner; grandchildren, Brooke (Tony) Hawley and Matthew Barry (Stephanie, Elijah Graham); great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Robert, Emily Hawley; nephews, Larry and Steve Harris; and niece, Debbie Wolfe.
The family will be forever grateful for the wonderful staff at Provision Living in Oshtemo, who took such wonderful care of Bob. From being greeted with a cheery “hello” by Vicki, Janna’s gentle persuasions, Darkisha’s comforting voice and beautiful smile, Dylan “Red,” who was always there in any capacity that was needed, and Linda, who was always encouraging him to join in Provision outings, as well as the rest of the staff at Provision. Thank you.
A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 4-7:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
