Robert Earl Bishop, age 82, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on September 26, 2024. He was born February 23, 1942, in Lawrence, Michigan to the late Donald and Thelma (Brigham) Bishop.
Robert graduated from Vicksburg High School. He loved roller skating and spent many nights at Long Lake Roller Rink, where he met the love of his life, Jean Wilsey. They were married February 18, 1967, and spent a total of 58 years together.
Robert was a reserved and laid-back man that loved his family dearly. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, playing ball, building puzzles, or anything he could do to be with them. Robert cherished yearly vacations to Sault Ste. Marie, where he enjoyed watching Great Lakes ships. He liked visiting lighthouses, going to train and air shows, and antique car shows with his best friend Larry, as well as fishing and pontoon boat rides.
Robert was a member of the Kalamazoo Model Railroad Historical Society and loved crafting model railroads and ships. He also had special interest in the history of battlefields and circuses.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jean Bishop; children, Deborah (Erik) Roman, Bonnie (Rob) Quillin, and Cory (Christine) Bishop; grandchildren, Taylor (Shawna) Burch, Kerri (Robert) Twiss, Kristina (Jordan) Louden, Adah Roman, Emily Bishop, James Bishop, and Benjamin Bishop; great-grandchildren, James, Ebony, Liana, Elliott, and Daneliya; as well as his best friend of 70 years, Larry Remington.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 3-5:00pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where a funeral service will be held Monday, October 7 at 12:30pm. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South.
