Richard Lee Cook

Richard “Dick” Lee Cook, 70, resident of Climax, Michigan, sadly passed away at his home on Forester Drive on Sunday, at 5:22 PM November 20, 2022 after losing his short battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on December 27, 1951, son of the late James and Juanita (Hoogendorn) Cook.

Richard graduated from Loy Norrix High School; class of 1970. Richard was a loyal employee of Pfizer, retiring after 43 years of service. He worked as a Sheet Metal Journeyman, Planner Scheduler, and eventually moved on to be a Lubricologist in the Preventive Maintenance Department. During his tenure at Pfizer, Richard was proudly commissioned to create a metal sculpture to be placed in a courtyard of the Kalamazoo Pfizer location, which is still there to this day.

Richard was a skilled and avid hunter and considered his hunting buddies to be his best friends and family. He was a loyal season ticket holder for K Wings hockey, which he attended often with his wife and family. He also enjoyed watching Tom Brady play football on Sundays with his dog Brady.

Richard was actively involved in raising his daughters, never missing a school activity or sporting event and was very proud that he built the first girls dugouts in Climax-Scotts school district.

Besides sitting in the woods, Richard’s favorite place to be was his log cabin in the Upper Peninsula which he aptly named “Hessel Heaven.”

Richard treasured spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was “a good one!” Richard did everything with excellence and integrity.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Carole Brock- Cook; daughters, Jennifer (Gregg) Marsh of Arrington, TN, Kristie (Jeff) Newton of Scotts, MI; stepdaughter, Morgan Wiard; He was “Papa” to grandchildren, Peyton Marsh, Cole Newton, Gavin Marsh, Sawyer Newton; sister, Carol Bryant, brother, Todd (Kathy) Cook; sister-in-law, Nancy Cook; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Cook.
